Installation: The shaft must pull up and out of the housing for the ring to be installed and the set screws tightened. Drive the roll-pin from the gear on the bottom noting the position of the thrust washers and remove the gear. Push the shaft up and out of the housing. Slip the ring over the shaft head centering it up. Tighten the two set screws. Push the shaft back down, put the gear back on and put the pin back in the hole as before.
With this type of setup, we assume you are already running a cross driver on the bottom of the magneto. BUT...the driver MUST BE ALUMINUM! If you have a steel cross, please use the pulldown menu above to add an aluminum cross to your order. In this case, remove the old steel cross driver from your magneto (a battery terminal puller works great for this!) and install an ALUMINUM cross.
Finally, remove the timing pointer from the side of the drive if you still use one. Our tiny sensor attaches to the drive using these standard holes with the supplied screws and washers. No need to drill or tap anything.
Connect the black wire of the harness to ground and the red wire to 12VDC (9-18V is acceptable) and the green wire to your tach input.
Set your tach device to "4 CYLINDER" since this kit will create 2 pulses per crankshaft revolution.
The tiny LED in the sensor pod will light up and go out every time one of the magnets inside the drive passes by it.
Each kit includes detailed installation instructions. Signal kit only fits FIE/Mallory cross drive mag drives.
